My name is Katie Otteson and I live in Miller, South Dakota. I am a stay at home mom of two young children, Hans (age 5) and Gwen (age 3). My husband, Collin, of 8 years is the band director in the Miller school district. I have belonged to TOPs chapter SD #385 for just over a year. I learned about TOPs through a woman, Teresa, who is the current Leader of our group. She and I were brought together by a social media page where I originally learned about the Ketogenic diet.
I began the Ketogenic diet when keeping up with my children started to seem like an impossible task. I set small goals for myself such as walking laps at the park while my children played and later hiking the trails in a state park. I knew I had to set a better example for my family and it all started with the Ketogenic diet. In January of 2017 I began the Ketogenic way of eating. Keto limits the amount of carbohydrates taken in which puts the body into a state of ketosis. Once a person is in ketosis the body burns fat for fuel instead of carbs. It is a natural way to lose weight. I joined TOPs in February of 2017. By this time I had already lost 30lbs but I knew that in order to continue to be successful I would need outside support and accountability. TOPs is a great solution because it allows every person to make their own diet and lifestyle choices. My group welcomed me immediately. Miller’s TOPs chapter have been my biggest cheerleaders from the beginning. I reached my prescribed goal this month allowing me to achieve KOPs status! As I prepare to turn 30 this year, I am so thankful for my final year of my 20’s. I have been introduced to a great group of women who have become friends for life. My family and I are excited to have an active summer and I am ready to move into the stage of maintaining my weight loss with the support of my family and TOPs.
